Chalk the Block on the Bluff

Friday, August 6th and Saturday, August 7th, 2010
Lake Boulevard in downtown St. Joseph

Artist Information:
St. Joseph Today is delighted to announce the annual "Chalk the Block on the Bluff" street chalking festival on the weekend of August 5th - 8th.  We would love to have you at our festival of creativity and urge you to read on for more details!

"Chalk the Block" highlights artist's talents against a backdrop of music and entertainment during both days.  Participating artists transform the streets with chalk drawings similar to those seen at festivals both in the U.S. and in many European countries, most notably Italy.

It is open to both amateur and professional artists and there is no fee as you are sponsored by a business or private individual.  Their name(s) will appear alongside your art work.  You may have your own sponsor, but if you do not, we will assign one to you.  Sponsorship is $75 for St. Joseph Today members and $100 for non-members.  Refreshments will also be provided.

You have a choice of three (3) sizes of squares for you to put your art work in; 10' x 10' square, 6' x 10' vertical or 6' x 10' horizontal.  Pastels are the preferred medium and you will be provided with two (2) boxes of "Koss 48 Artists Soft Pastels" and tempera paint in black or white. You may bring any additional chalk you deem necessary to complete your art work provided it is NOT permanent.  If you know you will be using a lot of one color, please bring extra chalk.  The artist will be held responsible for any permanent damage to the concrete.

There is no theme so you may illustrate any topic you would like, provided it is appropriate for public viewing.  This year, we are requiring the artist to communicate with their sponsor and have consesus on content of your design.  This information will be provided for you prior to the festival.

Check-in begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 6th or 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 7th.  Your block must be completed by 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Please return the following form to: 421 State St., St. Joseph, MI 49085
